The choir was founded in 1962 from a group of six friends by Peter Brown. Over the years the choir has grown, and currently has a membership in excess of fifty. Joined by six male choirs, soloist Kate Woolf, Prime Brass and the Cathedral organ, we celebrated our 50th Anniversary in grand style with a sell-out concert in Ely Cathedral in October 2012.

Whilst we often perform at fund-raising events for local good causes, the choir has travelled widely, both to perform on our own and to gather with many choirs for events such as the London Welsh Festival of Male Choirs at the Albert Hall.

‘Exchange weekends’ performing with another choir, alternately at home and away, have taken us to pleasant and varied places in enjoyable company, and are deservedly popular. We have particularly enjoyed taking our music to places where the appearance of a male choir is an unexpected delight, including the Eden Project, celebrations of all kinds, and even motorway service areas.

We have provided pre-match entertainment for rugby finals at Twickenham and Wembley, appeared on TV a number of times, and regularly make recordings, most recently in Jesus College Chapel, Cambridge, for our CD “Shine”.

Participation in competition, whilst not our main focus, invariably results in a valuable boost to quality of sound and presentation. We have been rewarded with success at the Miners Eisteddfod in Porthcawl, and have won BBC Radio3 ‘Choir of the Day’ on three occasions.

To achieve broad appeal, our repertoire covers a broad musical spectrum, but please don’t take our word for it: see the events list for the next opportunity to come and hear for yourself!

As for the future, whilst some male choirs are thriving, the national total is in decline, and sadly the opportunity to sing in a male choir may be denied to many. We believe that every adult male who can carry a tune should treat himself to the very special experience of singing as part of a group by giving a choir like ours a try. We welcome absolute beginners as well as experienced singers, and we provide learning aids and coaching to individual needs. See the ‘joining’ page for more information.
